I'm all about high-intensity training right now: Bar none, it yields the greatest exercise VALUE, i.e., more bang for your buck! Get up into the 'huff & puff' zone and wear a heart rate monitor to (safely) verify your intensity level. A synergistic metabolic effect occurs post high-intensity training, mostly due to lactic acid accumulation within the muscles, and a fat-burning yet muscle-preserving hormonal shift. Also known as Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption, or EPOC, there is a metabolism-elevating recovery period that last for hours following only 20 mins of very high-intensity exercise. Perhaps intervals are the best way to train at high-intensity, because when you achieve all out failure, you need immediate recovery before you continue...
